The legalization of marijuana has been in debate for years now, it's finally being legalized in certain states now. I believe that it should be legalized, the government can tax it and make a lot of money help bring us out of debt, it would also bring our crime rates down substantially. I read in Huffpost that Oregon which has already legalized marijuana is expected to "reap $17million to $40 million annually on marijuana taxes." Also the Nerd Wallet estimated $50 million to $100 million in annual tax revenue." Also in the Huffpost I read that the police force is happy not to be dealing with marijuana anymore and concentrating on thieves, violent crimes, and criminal cartel. With the police more concentrated on major crimes and not marijuana we will be able to crack down and get them off of our streets and make our society a safer place. There is also some flaws in the legalization. Such as people are going to be high and operation vehicles, which puts people driving at risk. People will be high and not have control over themselves and will be in public which could cause problems. Also with it being legal I think it could cause some crime by the demand people are going to want and need it. But in the long run the legalization is going to do more good for the U.S. and our economy than bad. So I support the legalization of marijuana.
After reading my classmate's James Middlebrooks blog I found some very informative and interesting facts about the legalization of marijuana. Before reading his article I was completely against legalization of marijuana and now I started to doubt a little bit about my decision. It's not to the point that I have changed my mind about the subject but enough to question myself. By the article making me question my though about this issue to me it means that he did he's homework and research about this assignment.
ReplyDeleteAlthough James supports this law to legalize it he also provides how it could it affects us which in opinion I thought it was great. He did a good letting us know what he was going to write about, the solution of how can it benefits us but also how can it affects us. Also mentioning where he got he's information from and he also provide us with examples to back-up he's decision on legalizing marijuana. Overall James completed the assignment letting us about an issue, giving us details and a way to resolve it not counting with me learning something new.
In James's article over "Marijuana Legalization Law" I learned lots of informative and interesting things about marijuana legalization that i didn't know. I agree that the government can tax it and can make tons of money off of it and it could help the U.S. get out of debt but it would only cover a portion of our nations debt... The U.S. is in trillions of dollars in debt and i don't really know how we will ever pay that back. But I agree with James's opinion on marijuana being legalized, the legalization of marijuana would set back crimes having to do with marijuana and would also help people with disorders and people who really need it for medicinal use. Although marijuana is legal in other states, and it has been in California since 1996, i think that we could maybe face some problems with legalization in Texas due to us being the biggest state that borders Mexico. Being the biggest state that borders Mexico, i think thats one of the problems that the government has faced with legalization in Texas. Ive heard that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol and cigarettes with no deaths caused by marijuana and tons of deaths due to drunk drivers and cancerous diseases caused by cigarettes. I do support legalization in Texas but not now lets do some more research and make sure its the right thing first before we legalize it for good, I give it 2 to 3 years.
